What is Indian Head Massage?
Indian Head Massage is particularly effective in today’s stressful times with people working longer and external pressures affecting us mentally and emotionally more than ever. This treatment is an Ayurvedic (‘the knowledge of life’ or ‘the Science of life') form of healing and relaxation; it’s a brilliant therapy for calming your mind and relaxing your body. Massage with a deep methodical movement helps to relieve any muscular tension as well as aiding relaxation, it also improves circulation in your head, enhancing and releasing all your senses and promoting clear thinking. Not to mention improving hair condition.
What happens during a Treatment?
I begin the massage at the upper back, where a combination of deep massage and pressure points assist me in relaxing your muscles by loosening and melting knots. Moving on to your shoulders and upper arms I will further release the muscles that hold stress and tension giving you shoulder and neck ache. I then massage deeply into your neck where tension accumulates relieving headaches and improving the circulation of cerebral spinal fluid. Moving up to your scalp, techniques are used that stimulate, relax and revive the whole of your head, increasing circulation. Finally I will give a gentle face massage helping to improve your circulation, skin tone, and sinuses while alleviating any temporal headache problems.
As this therapy is non-intrusive it will be performed with or without oil (your preference), with you sitting fully clothed, this makes it an ideal therapy for when you don’t have the time for a full body massage.

The History of Indian Head Massage.
Indian Head Massage has been an important part of everyday grooming for most Indian families for over a thousand years. Grandmothers, Mothers and Daughters would sit in a line while each generation would give Champi (head massage) to the other, this was to promote a healthy scalp and long shiny hair. The West was introduced to this therapy in the 1970s when Narendra Mehta an Indian (blind from the age of one) came to England to train as a Physical Therapist. He was dismayed to find Indian Head massage was not automatically experienced in barbers and hairdressers, as it was something he had grown up with. He also was disappointed to find the head was completely neglected even in a full body massage. Narendra returned to India in 1978 to train in the benefits and practice of champissage, extending his therapy to include the neck, shoulders and face. After returning to England he started his own practice and started training others in his Indian Head Massage. In today’s times Indian Head Massage is widely known and used as a deeply relaxing therapy.
